Winning with a Crowdsourcing Platform
Working with a single graphic designer is a tedious endeavor.
When you think of a crowded room where hundreds of graphic designers work on
a single job, you’d think there is bound to be chaos. Not so with Zillion Designs, a crowdsourcing
platform that connects graphic designers to clients.
Before we even get into that, let’s take stock of the
graphic design landscape. The total global market size of
the graphic design industry in 2023 is around $57.5 billion and is predicted to
grow to $78.25 billion by 2030. According to Salary.com in 2024, an average
graphic designer earns anywhere between $55K to 100K. However,
90 percent of the graphic designers prefer to work freelance.
These numbers tell us that graphic design is very much in
demand, and someone has got to fill that gap. When it comes to hiring graphic
designers, it is mind-boggling because there are so many types, calibers, and specialists
to choose from. How can a small business owner make the right choice? We are
only talking about them because large enterprises hire branding agencies, and
they don’t care about budgets.
That’s when companies like Zillion Design are a practical
solution. The company provides a crowdsourcing platform to connect all types of
graphic designers to clients with different needs. Both pay a small fee for
using the platform. The way it works is like this--a project holder fills out a
creative brief, makes the payment, and launches a contest. Graphic designers
registered with Zillion Designs compete to win a “prize” set by the project
holder. At the end of the contest, a winner is picked and gets paid. The
client walks away with a terrific design, exactly as they wanted.
There are many benefits to this crowdsourcing model (yes,
they aren’t the only ones!).
From the client's perspective, they get to choose from many
competing designs exclusively created for their company. They don’t have to
wait long to get a design, since the average contest takes around 3 to 10 days
to close. They get to work with multiple global designers, and they don’t have
to pay a hefty amount, whether it’s for a logo, print, or website design.
On the other hand, graphic designers get regular sources of
income whether they are hustling or using the platform as a full-time job. If
they sign up with multiple freelance platforms like this, they don’t need to be
stuck with an onsite job. The clients are verified; they get to interact with
the clients directly; and build clientele as they work together.
However, winning in such a crowded platform is a challenge.
For most, this is a fair competition while for others, like seasoned top-level
designers from developed countries, it’s a conundrum. Considering the gig
economy is here to stay, it’s time to accept that adapting to change is
inevitable. It’s not a perfect scenario but it can be improved upon to serve
all.
Crowdsourcing platforms like these are increasingly common,
with the likes of Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr dominating the industry. This
is because business owners are always looking for quality branding, but not
everyone has a huge budget for it. Crowdsourcing gets the work done in a short period—a precious commodity in the business world—and is affordable.
If winning is the challenge, then convenience is the game!
